Holy Orders

I address this plea in a special way to those of you whom the Lord is calling to the priesthood and the consecrated life. Do not be afraid to say ‘yes’ to Jesus, to find your joy in doing his will, giving yourself completely to the pursuit of holiness, and using all your talents in the service of others!

Benedict XVI, Pope Emeritus

The Sacrament of Holy Orders is the continuation of Christ’s priesthood, which He bestowed upon His Apostles. The three levels of the sacrament are the episcopate, the priesthood, and the diaconate. Holy Orders is administered by the laying on of hands by the Bishop, through which the priest is given the power to serve the Church through his preaching, teaching and celebration of the Sacraments.

Pray for our Seminarians

Father of Mercy and Love,

You have created us in your image. In baptism, you planted your love within our hearts so that we might reflect this precious gift in our love for others. Continue to bless your disciples as we discern your will for us.

Lord, we thank you for sending these young men to us to be your faithful servants. Bless our seminarians who are answering your call to follow Jesus in this time of discernment. Guard them as they prepare to serve the Diocese of Saginaw as priests. Instill in them the virtues of humility, meekness, prudence, generosity, gratitude and a burning zeal for souls. Fill their hearts with the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Teach them to know and love the Church, so that they may always and everywhere speak, act and reason with her, the glorious spouse of Christ. Above all, help them to come to know you more fully.

We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ, you Son, our Lord. Amen
